movie re-review and re-classification

my artist friends in the film industry will probably kill me for what i am about to do.

this week, cy and i will be ensconced in the comfort of our own homes for two whole days, watching some local and foreign films that our boss has shortlisted for us.  our mission:  to nitpick on the "correctness" of the ratings given by the board.  (don't worry, bebs.  no indie films included)

i admit it will be difficult.  i love films, i'd like to believe i am an artist at heart, and i am all for freedom of expression.  this time, though, i have to view the films not as a film buff, or as an artist, or as a mere critic, but as a 'watchdog.'  after years of watching movies as a hobby, i now need to check on the language, content, violence, nudity, etc., etc., etc...

tonight, i will be immersing myself in the provisions of the law & the rules of the MTRCB.

tomorrow, i will be a movie reviewer.

totally cool, spending two days watching movies as part of my job.

totally uncool, that i need to be technical and critical about something i love doing as a pastime.

that's a tough job. in the first place, as a movie buff, do you agree with the law and rules of the mtrcb? there strict rules may come from a different perspective as yours, and as such it might be difficult to re-review their ratings, isn't it?

thats a tough job but I guess someone has to do it if it will check the "correctness" of rating coz dont get it either. I mean some crappy movies get a "B" really now LOL while some really good ones dont even get a rating. inside scoop??

i am only going by what the rules say. as to their own interpretation and appreciation of what the rules mean, i hope they view films using experience and the appreciation of the common tao, vis-a-vis the envelope-pushing of some producers...

i need to remove my own personal perception muna. which kinds sucks coz it's hard to do...

hay naku, malabo talaga. i don't get it, coz they're not consistent.

case in point: for R-18: nudity: nudity meant simply to titillate and containing very little aesthetic value is not acceptable. (this means, dapat X sya pag ganun)

i just watched "punla" (R18). puno ng sex scenes which are simple meant to titillate and has NO aesthetic value whatsoever. may grinding and pumping pa!!!

haha, i know!!! i think as long as they prove that the producers really spent on the project and there's some semblance of a "lesson" for society, pwede na ng "B" or "A" rating. hahahaha....

but right now, what makes it difficult for me is i need to assume the role of a mom, more or less. like, borat is rated R13. and the language and type of comedy used in borat really bothers me, if i were a mom, that is. :)

hehe, medyo damo kamo na naka-pila. but i don't have one yet. mtrcb passes will expire on sept. 30, so we're applying for new ones pa lang.

hey planggee.. just read this post..

most indie films (that were/are lucky enough to be theatrically released sa mainstream) were/are not rated rightfully din... sana you should have included din some titles for you review..

penge mtrcb pass! hehehe

wala ring absolute standard kung ano ang obscene or too obscene so am not sure if needed pa rin ang mtrcb as a "classification" agency
